It’s safe to assume that as a parent business owner, the chance for breaks doesn’t come around that much. When you’re not working, you’re looking after your kids. However, this doesn’t leave any time for you. You don’t get to recharge your batteries and refocus your mind.

You need to take a creative holiday from time to time. It just needs to be a few days away from the office and away from the demands of your business. It might give you the inspiration that you need to break through the mindset block if you’re doing something completely different.

Develop Small Habits

Small habits can be a godsend. You often underestimate them and don’t think they’ll be any help to you, but cultivating a small habit that you can do every day can be a real help. It’s these consistent effort that yield the biggest rewards because you convince yourself slowly that you can overcome this block.

Start by doing tiny things every day. They could be taking five minutes for yourself, or it could be answering all your emails first thing. Whatever you do, be consistent with it. It should start to help you overcome your block by convincing your brain that change is possible.

Mindset block can be a particularly damaging thing. It’s natural to want to push forward and strive for the best, but when you have a mindset block it’s difficult to do that. When you’re a parent entrepreneur, it becomes even more challenging because you have to try and overcome this block at the same time as doing everything else, like looking after your kids and running a business.

To try and give you a hand with this, what we thought we would do is take a look at some of the different things you can do to make sure you overcome a mindset block when it strikes.

Identify The Problem

The first thing that you’re going to want to try and do is identify the problem. A mindset block can be a tricky thing, but finding the source is the best way to make sure you overcome it.

This involves some introspection. You need to look deep within yourself and identify what the problem is. What can’t you visualise? What piece of the puzzle is inaccessible to you? If you don’t know what the mindset block is, you can’t begin to break it down. If you’re struggling, try talking to a partner or a trusted friend. They might be able to help you out.

Take a Small Action

Okay. So you’ve identified the problem. You understand what the mindset block is, the form it’s taken. But how do you go about breaking that block, and overcoming the challenge that has been put before you?

Well, what we find is that small, consistent actions are the best way to overcome mindset blocks. Let’s take an example, and say that your mindset block is going out and socialising. You’ve been raising your kids for all these years, you’re running a business, and so you don’t know if you can make time for social interactions any more. A small, consistent action might be just to go and get a coffee every day. Or wander down to the local shop every other day. It’s just about doing something that slowly starts to break down that block.


Reward Yourself and Do More

The final step of the process is to reward yourself. You have made a deliberate effort to change the way that things are at the moment. That is incredible. Well done! Reward yourself with something that you think will make you happy. You have to celebrate these little successes if you want to tackle the big stuff.

And speaking of the big stuff, it’s time to do something else. Identify another small and consistent thing you can do to overcome the mindset block. Incorporate it into your daily routine, and move on. Keep pushing in the right direction, and you will get past this.

To summarise, getting passed a mindset block is a difficult thing to do sometimes. We are not denying that they can have a profound impact on a parent entrepreneur. But you have to try and keep pushing. You have to try and be brave. Only you can overcome this barrier. You can get support from your friends and family, and we encourage you to do that, but the final push is down to you. And you can do it, but you just have to believe in yourself first.

If we asked everyone to say whether or not they second-guessed their actions all the time, a lot of people would probably say that they do. However, this type of activity is dangerous. It becomes easy to doubt yourself and second-guess everything that you do and say. Once that happens, you start to lose confidence in even the most basic of tasks. To resolve this, you need to make sure that you are avoiding second-guessing yourself where possible. Trust your gut, and remember that there is a lot you can do without having to question it.

Trying to Prove Something

Okay, so while it is natural to want to compete with people, some take it a step too far. They see everything as a constant battle and set out to prove themselves superior in every instance. All that happens is that eventually, they find that they do not match up in some areas, and this destroys their confidence. Part of running a successful business, especially as a patent, is realising that you have nothing to prove to anyone. You do not have to attempt to showcase your skills to the world continually – the right people will come along in good time because you are what they need.

Overall, it is easy to find yourself engaging in bad habits that damage your confidence. You should try and break these wherever you can because they have such a massive impact on you and your life. Remember that when it comes to businesses and raising children, there is no preset formula for success. It is down to the individual, and their ideas about what makes something worthwhile.
